Artist Reception with Kathleen Schildmeyer

Date: Sun, Jan 13, 2019

Join us for an artist reception with Kathleen Schildmeyer on Sunday, January 13 from 3 - 5 pm.

Kathleen's paintings are inspired by nature. Moods evoked by clouds, wind, sun and shadow are interpreted using color and texture. She also pulls the experience of sensations into her work, things that are felt more than seen; music, wind, a dream. Textures often make reference to a layering of time. Hints of these unseen elements are present throughout her artwork.

Kathleen begin her larger paintings by referencing small loose sketches created on location to get the essence of a time and place. Her process includes scraping paint with old credit cards, palette knives and sticks, intermixed with refined brushstrokes. Keeping some areas of the work a bit raw, to reveal a glimpse of the creative process is an aspect that continues to excite her. Kathleen has always liked the smell of paint and the opportunity to mark up a big white canvas. For Kathleen, painting is a constant discovery and conversation with the artwork itself, the painting tells her what it needs and she respond.

Kathleen wants people to feel a sense of peace when they are with her paintings. She hopes to inspire self discovery and connection.

Guests will enjoy light appetizers while viewing the collection and wine by the glass will also be available for purchase.
