2014 History Mont Elise Vineyard Gewürztraminer
The fruit from this vineyard was the catalyst for History. Planted by Charles (Chuck) Henderson in the late 1960s, this vineyard was among the first planted in the Columbia Gorge AVA. The property was purchased in 1999 by Melissa Burr’s relatives. In 2013, she began making wine from the estate, setting the course for the collection of History wines.
An aromatic wine, with notes of dried apricot and rose, lemon zest and grapefruit pith, has a concentration of exotic, tropical fruit on the palate that leads to a round mineral-driven, dry finish.
This high elevation site in White Salmon, Washington, sits at 1,800 ft., and has a condensed, focused growing season with warm days and cool nights, creating beautiful vibrant wines.
The 2014 vintage was a near-perfect growing season, with 1.1-tons of fruit harvested on October 26. The fruit was fermented in stainless steel drums and aged on lees for eight months with frequent stirring, giving the wine a roundness in texture.
